Over the summer, I woke up early one day to watch the sun rise at the Marine Corps Memorial. And then I spent that day visiting Arlington National Cemetery. Today, take some time and consider all that others have done (and continue to do) for our country so that we may be free. Today is the day for recognizing all servicemembers, whether deceased, retired or currently serving.
From the brutal winter of 1776 when a meager 2500 men, one-third of whom were barefoot and frostbitten, trekked through snow, and followed General George Washington across the Delaware River to surprise a well-trained Hessian Army, to our world today. So many have fought for my freedom, for your freedom, and made the ultimate sacrifice. “Victory or Death.”
Today. Remember.

Beautiful!
These are beautiful Aileen.
Intensely moving, Aileen. I can not begin to imagine the pain endured by a parent when they lose a child. In my mind, if I try to imagine it, I know it would kill me. I have so much admiration for these soldiers, who put their own needs/wants aside to serve a greater good – the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you so very much for sharing this. You are an amazing woman, and I’m grateful for your friendship.
Strong images and narrative! Very nice post!

So, I’m browsing your photos today and I ended up here. What an incredibly moving journey you’ve taken us on. Thank you thank you thank you. You’ve captured that odd duo of intense sadness and intense pride with these shots. Well done!
