FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.
- Is your hair natural? I know, you’re laughing right now, but I get this question ALL the time. Seriously. Who dyes their hair gray?! Yes, indeed, the shiny silver hair is mine and all natural. I fought it for years, but I’m embracing authenticity in all areas of my life, and that includes my hair. Life is too short. And so is my hair. I’m currently growing out the pixie (which I really really loved), but I want to see what my curly silver hair will look like.
- Describe your style in five words. My style is honest, funky, moody, emotive and soulful.
- Are you ever looking for models? YES! As of February 2012, I’m looking for four specific types of shoots, and if you have what I need, your session is FREE. First, I would love love love to shoot a birth (home, hospital, birth center, makes no difference to me). Second, I’m looking for a family to allow me to come into their home for a day (and to follow them everywhere) to shoot a “day-in-the-life.” Not posed, just real. Third, I’m looking for couples that have been married longer than fifty years — for photography and for interviewing. And lastly, I’m looking for heavily tattooed people, preferably with some typography. Know anyone that meets any of those criteria? Please send them my way.
- How much is your portrait session fee? I shoot all film, and the fee to cover those expenses, together with my time and talent is $300. That doesn’t include any prints or files. Professional photography is expensive. But, cheap photography is well, just that, cheap. You want incredible breathless honest photographs of your children, your family, your love, it will cost you. If you want cheap pictures with forced smiles, go to the mall. You’ll pay less, but the memories won’t mean as much.
- Do you shoot weddings? I’ve just recently decided to no longer shoot weddings, though I love second-shooting with my photographer friends.
- What do you shoot with? Well, I’m constantly in flux. Right now I’m shooting with a Leica M6 and a 35mm Summicron, a Nikon F100 with either a 35 f2.0 or my 50 f1.8, a Hasselblad 500 cm, my Yashica Mat 124G, and my Holga. I also have a Fuji X100 (digital) which I love and which I usually have with me as well. My other favorite camera is my iPhone. No joke. It’s always with me, and it takes fun, amazing images. I’m on Instagram (@aileenreilly), and I also love using Snapseed and Camera+ to edit my iPhone images.
